Why Therapy?
Many of us have been taught to keep our emotions, losses, pain, and abuse to ourselves.

What do you do with all this stuff if you can’t talk about it?
Well, you push it deep down within yourself, hoping you won’t ever have to deal with it.
No matter how far you pack it down, without working through the hurts, it will cause a host of problems that affect your relationships with your parents, spouse, kids, coworkers, and yourself.
Not talking about your feelings won’t make them go away.
Bottled up feelings can cause many adverse physical effects such as feeling tired, run down, dizzy, and body aches.
Mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD can manifest if you don’t work through the pain.

Therapy addresses symptoms and gets to the source of your problem.

You are an expert on who you are. The therapist is an expert on how the mind works.
Together we work through the pain and healing happens through the therapeutic process.
I help you make connections you did not see. I use doable skills to help you practice and solidify the
changes.
The healing doesn’t stop there. The positive gains in therapy also helps you to better handle future challenges.
About me
Helping at-risk youth sparked my passion to pursue a career counseling. I found myself “counseling”, encouraging, and teaching problems solving skills before I had any formal education or training. I just knew it felt right and I was good at it as young people would seek me out to feel better about their circumstances. I soon found myself back in college, enrolled in California State University, Long Beach where I received a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2007. Over the last 14 years I have expanded my services to adults, youth, families, and couples. I have honed my skills in many settings from in-patient, to in-home family therapy, and private practice. After many years in practice I remain curious and excited about each client.

I have a special interest in relationships. How they grow you, challenge you, and uplift you. Unfortunately, sometimes relationships tear you down. Relationships can shape you in ways you can’t quite understand. They are front and center in couples and family therapy, but I also explore relationships in individual therapy as well as they often contribute to individual distress. I use an integrative approach to therapy by combining different modalities including cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and experiential therapies to create the best fit for clients. I have advanced training in cognitive behavioral therapy and couples work. I'm trained in Functional Family Therapy and provide training and oversight of other therapists in this model.

Finding the right therapist can be a daunting task. If you have found yourself on this page you are probably considering taking the brave step of seeing a therapist and you are wondering if I am the type of person who would understand you and help you through this time. Your connection with a therapist is one of the most important factors to success in therapy. It is important to take the time to get to know me a little or any therapist before scheduling an initial appointment. Feel free to call to determine if we are a good fit for each other.
